Mission Statement

keen (adj): eager, earnest, spirited, devoted, intense, fierce, enthusiastic, passionate, ardent, avid, fervent, impassioned, zealous, ebullient, wholehearted.

Keen Company creates theater that provokes identification, reflection and emotional connection. In intimate productions of plays and musicals, the company tells stories in which people strive to live with integrity. Through its educational arm, Keen develops and produces new plays for high school audiences, expanding the repertoire of plays available for young people and creating new generations that embrace theatre. Keen seeks to build a lasting community of artists and audiences who share a passion for theater that champions sincerity and speaks to life’s profound moments.

A Brief History

Now in our 14th season, Keen Company has produced 33 full-length plays and one musical. We have been honored with seven Drama Desk Nominations and one Drama Desk Award, two Obie Awards, a 2005 Special Drama Desk Award "for moving and enlightening audiences with plays that build upon our theatrical heritage," a Drama League nomination, and a 2008 Obie Grant. Six of our productions have transferred to other theatres.
